Annual meeting of the HAC's International Advisory Board

The International Adviosory Board held its annual meeting at the HAC's offices on October 28-29, 2011. The main point of discussion was the draft higher education law, which foresees a restructuring of the HAC and, in the form available at the time of the meeting, no longer stipulates that the HAC is an independent body of experts as it has been by law since its foundation in 1993. The Board debated the question of independence in light of the European Standards and Guidelines. It also discussed the work of the HAC in the past year. Staff study visit from the Polish UCA at the HAC

Two staff members from the Polish University Accreditation Commission spent two intensive days at the HAC secretariat on 12/13 September 2011. Paulina Kazmierczak és Joanna Kaluzna first presented a short introduction to the HAC staff about the work of the UCA. Secretary General Tibor Szántó provided a brief overview of the HAC, after which the visitors extensively discussed various phases of the HAC's operations with individual HAC staff members. Both parties found the visit very useful and informative.

Chinese delegation visits the HAC



A Chinese delegation visited the HAC on August 4, 2011. The seven visitors were from China's Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center, headed by its Director General Professor  Wu Boda . They were accompanied by Dr. Li Xinhua, head of the Education Section of the country's embassy in Hungary. HAC President Prof. György Bazsa described the Hungarian accreditation system. Questions regarding diploma recognition arose as well, given that the Academic Degrees Center also comprises a department for equivalence matters. HAC Secretary General Dr. Tibor Szántó, his deputy Éva Ruff, and Christina Rozsnyai also participated in the discussion.

CEE Network general assembly on 28 May, 2011

The CEE Network held an extraordinary general assembly on 28 May, 2011. The subject was the preparation of the network's legal registration in Düsseldorf, Germany. Of the previously 26 members from 19 countries, 18 organizations, among them the HAC, signed the founding Statutes. Other members can join any time to what is now CEENQA. The new president is Iring Wasser, from ASIIN, Germany, and vice-president is Todor Shopov of NEAA Bulgaria. The Secretariat continues to be at HAC, Hungary, and Christina Rozsnyai continues as Secretary General.

The network also held its annual workshop on 27 May, with three renowned speakers: Nick Harris and David Cairns, both formerly QAA UK, and Kaja Braathen from ECA and NVAO, The Netherlands. Two topics were discussed, the external evaluations of agencies in light of the European Standards and Guidelines (ESG), and the agencies' experiences with the evaluation of (international) joint programs.

HAC International Advisory Board meeting

The International Advisory Board of the HAC held its annual meeting on 29-30 October 2010. The first day, with additional participants from the HAC's Hungarian Advisory Board and László Dux, Deputy Secretary of State for Higher Education, was devoted to a discussion about the concept of a new higher education law. The 10th Anniversary Meeting of the CEE Network

The Central and Eastern European Network of Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education held its biennial general assembly in Sofia May 28, 2010, where it celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Network. With five new members the CEE Network now has 26 member agencies from 18 countries and one international agency. More on
